OUR FABRICS

With us at Hemdesigners, you can always be sure that you will find a fabric for your furniture that matches your wishes regarding appearance, feel and color. We work with several skilled suppliers who produce wonderful fabrics to last a lifetime. Whether you are looking for a 100% natural linen fabric or a thicker, luxurious velvet fabric - there is something for you.

Many of our fabrics are part of the "Magic Home Collection" and are treated during the manufacturing process to make them water-repellent and very easy to clean. We know that many of our customers love the light, Scandinavian color tones, and are therefore proud to offer fabrics that you can feel safe with - despite a very light shade. In our sofas upholstered in these fabrics, you can enjoy a glass of red wine or a cup of coffee with no regrets.

The majority of our fabrics are STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified to ensure that the product meets high human ecological requirements, i.e. does not contain chemicals in levels that are harmful to your health. If you would like more information about a specific material - please contact us and we will help you.

We offer lots of fabrics with high Martindale values that are also suitable for public environments, so that you can feel confident that the quality of the material is always top-class with us - and that the fabric will retain its fine appearance for many years in everyday use.

GENERAL CARE

To ensure that Hemdesigner's furniture retains its appearance, we ask that you treat it with the same love that goes into creating and manufacturing it. Furniture must therefore be used for its intended purpose and function as well as given instructions.

Do not sit or stand on the back, arm and headrests. Do not step on or press with your knees or hands on seats (especially rattan seats), nor stand on seats. You should also not walk or jump on the furniture.   The furniture should not be pushed or pulled. It should be lifted with a firm grip on the frame, not the legs. Care should also be taken so that the upholstery and surface treatment are not stretched, scratched or damaged.

The furniture is only intended for use in dry rooms in residential buildings, protected from harmful weather and direct sunlight. Optimal conditions are a temperature between +15 and 28°C with a humidity between 40 and 65%.

The furniture must not be placed in the immediate vicinity of elements, fireplaces, tiled stoves or other heat sources. Minimum distance from heat source is one meter.

There may be small differences of +-10% for the measurements in cm/mm specified in the webshop.

Children should not assemble furniture or activate its functions, such as, for example, opening a sofa bed or folding up an extra panel on a folding table.

UNPACKING

We urge caution when unpacking the furniture. Do not cut open the packaging, with e.g. knife or scissors, to not accidentally damage the furniture/product that is inside. Prepare space for unpacking the furniture. Before unpacking, any transport protection on the outside of the packaging should have been removed. Note that the outer packaging may be dirty after transport - here care is required when removing the outer layer of the packaging to not accidentally get dirt on the furniture inside. We recommend washing your hands after removing the outer packaging - to minimize the risk of getting dirt on the furniture.

SOFT FURNITURE & MATERIALS (seat cushions / padding)

In the case of furniture that is made for several people (multi-seater sofas, corner sections, divan sections, etc.), it is always recommended to evenly distribute the seats over the entire surface of the furniture to avoid the padding in the cushions being moved.

Seating cushions with down, cold foam or silicone fiber need to be puffed / whipped and shaped regularly, at least once a week. Note that the materials in, among other things, your sofa or armchair change over the time you use it. Normal changes include the fabric stretching and getting wrinkly. The fact that a fabric becomes wavy is because the fabric becomes more elastic after use, while the padding material softens and moves. Stretching is a completely normal phenomenon and soft fabrics stretch more and faster than coarser ones. To avoid the upholstery stretching more than normal, you should smooth the fabric towards the edges with the help of your hand at regular intervals. Soft furniture such as sofas, armchairs, etc. should be vacuumed regularly. Note that with a padding that contains down - feathers can penetrate the fabric. This is a normal phenomenon.

Wrinkles on upholstery may occur due to the transport packaging. After unpacking, upholstery should return to its intended shape within a few days. If you want to speed up the process, you can smooth out folds and shape pillows and stuffing with your hands. This must be done sparingly so as not to create folds and deformation in the material. Do not remove upholstery from the furniture.

NATURAL MATERIALS

LEATHER: When using furniture covered with natural leather, direct contact with skin, animal and vegetable fats should be avoided. Remember to moisturize leather at regular intervals with special agents available on the market to avoid the leather becoming dry and at risk of cracking.

RATTAN: Furniture with a seat in rattan needs proper care as rattan is a natural material that can become brittle and sensitive to pressure and high loads over time. For regular maintenance, we recommend moistening the rattan using a spray bottle with water. This means that the rattan maintains its flexibility and resilience and provides a longer lifespan. You can also use a mixture of soap flakes that you dissolve in warm water and apply to the back of the rattan. Allow to penetrate thoroughly into the rattan and then wipe off excess moisture. Remember to never point-load a rattan piece of furniture by, for example, standing on the rattan with your knees or feet.

WOOD: Wooden parts must be protected against moisture and direct sunlight. Special attention must be given to the contact surfaces of wooden parts with the floor. Damp wood, such as when scrubbing floors, can cause the color of the legs to change and the wood to cause stains on the floor. Therefore, make sure that the furniture feet are dry. Regarding wooden furniture, especially tables, you should be aware that stains from other liquids can easily occur if you do not wipe them up immediately with a damp cloth. Also, always use a coaster on your table to avoid rings on the table, which are the most common type of stain.

NOTE that products made of wood may differ / shift in color. All wooden products are handmade and each product is therefore unique. Different stain colors can therefore differ from time of production - and are not always identical.

LAMINATE: Note that products made of laminate have durable surfaces - on the other hand, edges and areas where two surfaces meet are sensitive to moisture and external damage. Be careful not to use rags that are too damp when cleaning furniture made of laminate as moisture risks penetrating under / between the different materials and damaging the furniture. If you spill liquid on a piece of laminate furniture - dry immediately.

MARBLE: Our marble slabs are made from natural Carrara marble. Note that the marbling / appearance may differ from product to product as it is a natural material. Always use a coaster on your table.

CLEANING

Hemdesigners offer a wide range of materials from leading suppliers. This means that all fabrics have their specific properties and care advice. If you are unsure how to treat the particular material you have chosen for your furniture - you are welcome to contact us and we will guide you.

We offer a variety of durable fabrics that are part of the Magic Home Collection - These fabrics have a special treatment and are hydrophobic and water repellent. Liquid that ends up on fabrics with this marking beads up on the surface and is very easy to clean with a paper towel and water.

Any dirt from cosmetics, drinks, food products, mud and blood must be cleaned with a soft fiber cloth or cotton cloth with water or a solution of organic soap or detergent without additives.

Do not rub when cleaning dirty surfaces. When dirt has been removed, the fabric is brushed with a natural bristle brush against the direction of the fiber in the fabric. Dirt should be removed immediately. Do not use cleaning agents containing solvents, alcohol, kerosene, vegetable or animal wax, grease or fabric softener. Commercial cleaners and polishes are used at the buyer's own risk.

ATTENTION! Test the cleaner and detergent on an inconspicuous area of the furniture first to check that it does not leave visible marks. To avoid damage to the upholstery, the fabric's care instructions should be checked. Do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service for questions about maintenance for specific materials.

For daily maintenance of your sofa or armchair - vacuum your furniture with a special nozzle adapted for furniture to remove dust & dirt.

New viscose carpets have a tendency to fluff at first - this is a completely normal characteristic of viscose carpets. Vacuum the carpet as needed without a brush to remove excess fibers and after a period of use the pilling will subside. Viscose is very sensitive to liquid and any type of liquid spillage leaves stains on the carpet. This means that we do not recommend using the carpet in areas where it is exposed to this, for example under the dining table or in the hall.
